Project Idea
The people of Niger live in a landlocked area, making it hard for them to get their hands on any clean water at all. Because of this and because they are located in the intense heat of Africa, they are severely in need of clean water. The Solar Filter is a water filtration device that uses solar energy to generate electricity to heat and boil the water within, cleaning it of bacteria. Unlike other filtration devices that use this method, this would be designed to be a lot more portable, although, you sacrifice the amount of water for portability, this would be a lot more viable for someone on the go. Our product makes obtaining water from various sources easier, faster, and cheaper than having to buy water from a vendor, and serves the purpose of granting the people a way to get water.
The Solar Filter would be made out of primarily a cheap metal such as aluminum. The Solar Filter would resemble that of a reusable water bottle, only with a solar panel located on areas of the sides of the bottle, that channel the electricity to a conductible metal on the bottom that heats up the water from the inside. The heater portion is triggered by a switch at the bottom that blocks the electrical flow from the solar panels when turned off, so that already cleaned water will not continue to boil off.

This solar water bottle made by Contemporary Energy serves as an example of how the water bottle works by harnessing the suns energy.
