Problem Statement
For the Cutting the Pie P.O.W, we had to find to cut a circle a certain amount of times and find the maximum number of pieces that could be cut. After that, we had to find a pattern of the maximum amount of pieces to the number of cuts. This helped us later in the problem when we had to figure out how the amount of maximum pieces out of 10 cuts. By then, I found a pattern and equation that helped me figure out the maximum amount without even drawing a circle.
Process
When I started the P.O.W., I took the approach of cutting circles with a small amount like 1-6 to see if I spotted a pattern from there, which I could. Every time the cuts would go up by one, the number added would go up by one as well. For example:
I thought that I could go more in depth with the problem so I counted up the intersects and factored those into the table.
The maximum number of pieces that I found for ten cuts was 56 pieces based on the pattern that I found from the table.
Self-Assessment
One thing that I learned from this problem is a better understanding for using patterns to solve a problem and using the Habit of a Mathematician, Look for Patterns. I think that I deserve a 10/10 on this P.O.W because I got really in depth with it, and explored it very well.
