Mathematical Model of Me Overview
In the Mathematical Model of Me project, we had to graph something that represented us in the GeoGebra graphing program on a computer. Something that we could use to represent us like a face or another personal image someone else could recognize us by. One main purposes of this project was to get acquainted with the basics of graphing using GeoGebra by graphing our image in a collection of coordinate points. We then had to get creative and embellish our image using processing software or by using artistic talents to create beautiful work. Choosing how to embellish the image gave everyone insight on the question "Who are you?"
The Steps Toward Our Final Image
In the project, we had to choose an image that could represent us in some way or choose something that meant something to us. I chose an image of me right before I got my braces on because getting them on was kind of like a milestone of a sort to me. I then had to print the image out and trace over it with graph paper, create an x and y axis, and had to make sure I was making coordinate points as I was drawing. When I was all done with tracing, I then plotted the points in a spreadsheet view on GeoGebra. After I plotted the points, we had to right click a group of them like the points that would make up the eyes or the ears and create a polyline, both plotting the points and connecting them with line segments in the graphics view of GeoGebra. After that was completed, I decided to do a simple interpretation of my image by tracing the outline on a blank sheet of paper. I also decided to add a little humor by putting a State Farm logo on one of the corners of the paper.
- A mathematical model is when you use mathematics like graphing to model a certain object or image
- Complex imagery can be modeled mathematically by graphing. It can be modeled by graphing because we can use more than two axis like an x, y, and z axis to model three dimensional images.
- Productivity software like GeoGebra can be used for graphing because they have all of the tools required to perform a task like graphing.
