In this project, we were assigned an element in the periodic table. Then, we had to research it and create a hero out of the research we did. This hero needed a back story, design, and powers based on the element.
The element that I was assigned was the element palladium. It is a metal found in the earth. It is malleable and ductile, and is used as a catalyst for hydrogen. It was discovered in 1803 by William Hyde Wollaston.
Here is the back story for my hero, Pall:
Jason Riggs was always an adventurous, caring young man in school. He always found ways to get into trouble because he never kept to his own business. On a school field trip to a jewelry manufacturing plant, he found his new calling. He wanted all valuable metals. As the tour delved deep into the factory, Jason found himself looking at a vat of the precious metal palladium. Mesmerized by its silvery-white shine, he found himself drawing ever so closer to it. Little did he know, the palladium was a government experiment, and it consumed anything it touched. He put his finger in the vat of the boiling metal, but it did not burn. Instead, the metal clinged onto his skin, growing further up his body. Before he knew it, the palladium coated his entire body, including his eyes and mouth. Pall was born.
Jason knew that he couldn’t return home like this, so he ran. The darkness in the rain outside was enough to keep strangers from seeing his shine as he made his way towards a nearby cave. As soon as he reached the cave after running 6 miles, he felt impowered by the cave. He looked around and noticed that the cave was lined with palladium. He went near it and the palladium began to grow. He touched the palladium, the palladium was mushy to him. He grabbed a piece off of the cave wall as if it were chocolate, and then threw it. The palladium made a loud thump, as if it were heavy. Pall spent days in the cave. He learned that he could control palladium with his mind and bend it to his will. He made a small base inside of the cave. Soon, he heard the sound of people screaming. He went to the surface to discover a giant hydrogen bomb in the middle of the street, bomb squads were everywhere. He approached the people, this time the sun beamed on his palladium skin, making a blinding light to everyone looking at it. He made his way to the bomb, everyone backed away from Pall. Once he reached the bomb, he saw that it had 20 minutes to explode. He touched the bomb, and hydrogen gas left the bomb and went into Pall. He grew bigger as he was filled up with the hydrogen. Once the bomb was depleted of hydrogen, Pall was as tall as a two story home. He went to a cliff overlooking the ocean. Knowing that he couldn’t hold in this much hydrogen at once, he instinctively released the hydrogen gas, but, as he let it flow out of his hand, it ignited, A bright beam of fire crushed the ocean. After ten seconds, the hydrogen was depleted from Pall and he resumed to normal size. Pall disappeared after that. He only came back in times of emergencies that threatened the people.
